Every election cycle, the Harris County Republican Party hosts the Judicial Signing Party. So what is the signing party? It is a way for those judicial candidates who choose to participate to have a spot where registered voters in Harris County come out and sign their petitions. I need your help, and I need you come out Tuesday, October 25th. These petitions, which I have mentioned before on this blog, are critically important for two reasons. First, every judicial candidate has to collect a minimum number to qualify for the ballot and second, an additional number to avoid paying the filing fee. For me, I have to collect 250 signatures to qualify and 750 signatures to keep me from having to pay the $2,500 fee.
So, on October 25th, at 6pm at the Westin Galleria, come on over ready to sign!
If you have never attended one of these, it works like this:
There will be four long rows of tables with all of the petitions. You will be directed to one row. If you complete that row you will have signed the petitions for all of the incumbent judges or uncontested primary races. The contested primaries will be randomly placed in the rows (i.e. if there are two candidates running, they will each get two rows).
Click on this link to pre-register. What does the pre-register do? Pre-register so that when you get there you will be provided labels with all the information you would have to normally handwrite on a petition. So, all you do you is peel, stick, sign and move on. If you pre-register, the label sheets will be waiting for you. If you just show up, there will be volunteers there to find you in the voter database and print your labels right there.
This event is always alot of fun. Come on out, have a snack, a drink, and get a chance to meet nearly all of the judicial candidates, precinct chairs and other party leaders in one location. Personally, I want you there to sign my petition so I can get over that 750 mark and put those resources to good use next November.
